Proxy Biomedical (Galway, Ireland) is currently in the market
introduction stage with four CE marked and FDA approved devices. The company
is a highly flexible medical device developer focused on tissue repair and regeneration
using advanced synthetic and biologic based biomaterials. Proxy Biomedical has
received 5 million (USD) from Enterprise Ireland, Western Development and Boston Scientific.
Paradigm Spine (Wurmlingen, Germany) has a full platform
portfolio of non-fusion spinal products that treat both degenerative and scoliosis spine
disorders. The company currently has 8 products in their portfolio, selling 4 outside
the US and launching 1 in the US this year.
Glycoscience Laboratories (Tokyo, Japan) is a clinical
stage biopharmaceutical company developing glycosaminoglycan oligosaccharide applications
in the multiple sclerosis market. To date, 9.5 million (USD) have been invested in
the company by Life science Venture Fund, Nikko Ant Factory, SBI Bioscience fund, SBIC Tokyo,
Shiseido, Co, and Nissay Capital.
CYTOX Limited (London, England) is developing products for
the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) based on the cell cycle theory
for the pathogenesis of AD. The company has raised 3.2 million (USD) from Midven,
NESTRA and other sources.
Napo Pharmaceutical (California, USA) focuses on the development
of proprietary pharmaceuticals for the global marketplace in collaboration with local
partners. Napo focuses on both high-value novel medicines in the developed world
market and on high-volume business in the emerging economies of the world. The
company has received 48.5 million (USD) from Invesco, IL&FS Investment Management, BP,
Bioveda Capital, ING, and others.
Small Bone Innovations (Péronnas – France) was created in 2004
and is the first company to focus purely on devices and technology to treat the small bones
and joints from the fingertips to the shoulder, and from below the knee to the toes.
Small Bone Innovations has received more than 90 million (USD) from Viscogliosi Brothers,
LLC, NGN Capital, 3i and Fortress.
Evolva SA (Allschwill, Switzerland) is a biotechnology
company that creates small molecule drugs from genetics. The company has a pipeline
of products, including drugs for cardiovascular and fungal conditions, expected
to enter Phase I in late 2008. Evolva has raised 20 million (Euros) from Aravis,
DII, Sunstone Capital, Novartis Ventures and others.
GammaStar Medical Group Ltd. (Shanghai, China) is actively
involved in the research development, manufacture, sales, service and investment of
medical equipment for distribution and use throughout the world. Its product
development activities and portfolio is focused on the treatment of cancer.
To date, the company has received 10 million (USD) from IDG-Accel China Growth Fund,
Qiming Venture Partners, and Harbinger (BVI) Venture Capital.
EyePlusPlus (Tokyo, Japan) is a medical device company
that has developed a patented technology (Forehead Sensory Recognition System) for
helping the blind and the visually impaired. To date, EyePlusPlus has received
about 1 million (USD) in financing from a group of private angel investors based in Japan.
Scitech Produtos Medicos Ltda. (Goias, Brazil) is in
the business of research, development, marketing and sales of medical devices for
minimally invasive procedures. To date, the company has raised 4 million (USD)
from FineP the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology.
Asklepion Pharmaceuticals (Tennessee, USA) is focused on
researching, developing and marketing biopharmaceutical products for the unmet or
underserved needs of patients afflicted with liver-based diseases. The company
has raised 7 million (USD) to date with the primary investor being Sanitarium,
a leading health food company in Australia.
Alvos Biotec (MG, Brazil) is dedicated to the development
of new bioproducts and is currently developing two vaccines: one directed at fasciolosis,
a 3 billion/year (USD) disease afflicting animals and another directed at a human disease,
schistosomiasis, affecting over 200 million people. The company has raised 1 million
(USD) from Fundação Biominas and FIR Capital.
m2m Imaging Corp. (Brisbane, Australia) is a leader in
the development of next generation technology solutions for high performance preclinical
and clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) coils, probes and accessories.
The company has raised funds in private equity, led by Amphion Ventures.
